On the 1st of May 2000, Poland joined the European Union, this act has made the citizens of Poland to become full citizens enjoying the full rights of the European Union.
To quote from Article 17 (1) of the amended Treaties of Rome:
“Citizenship of the Union is hereby established. Every person holding the nationality of a Member State shall be a citizen of the Union. Citizenship of the Union shall complement and not replace national citizenship.
